Louis L’Amour (1908–1988) was a prolific American author renowned for his Western novels, short stories, and historical fiction. Born Louis Dearborn LaMoore in Jamestown, North Dakota, he spent his early years immersed in the fading days of the American frontier. His family’s nomadic lifestyle exposed him to various cultures and experiences, which later influenced his writing. L’Amour’s literary journey began with poetry and articles before transitioning to pulp magazines, where he gained recognition for his adventure and crime stories. His breakthrough came with the publication of Hondo in 1953, which was later adapted into a film starring John Wayne.
